Just minutes from Stuttgart, we found an excellent adventure for the kids – a Fossil Dig!
This slate quarry doesn’t look like much of a playground, but the kids had an amazing time.
After paying the entrance and rental of a hammer and chisel (whole family came out to about 10 euros), we were free to wander around the quarry and hunt for fossils.
We all had a great time, searching for pieces that looked like they might cleave apart easily, and guessing which would contain a fossil. Oftentimes, we were rewarded.
The best part? We got to keep whatever we found!
Afterward, you can visit a little museum inside with lots of complete fossils of creatures that lived around here.
I found this to be an excellent experience that is not only educational, but a whole lot of fun!
